Robert Snowdale owns Distribution Solutions, Inc. (DSi) in Plymouth, MA. He is also the founder, owner, and CEO of DSI Freightways, LLC, a freight management consulting firm founded in 1991. His extensive experience in freight forwarding, less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload, and freight pricing has significantly contributed to his professional achievements.
A graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, he has dedicated many years to the transportation and logistics industry, undertaking various management roles at some of the nation's premier roadway transportation companies. His tenure as COO at DSI Freightways was marked by his strategic acquisition of majority stakes in the company in 1990. Currently, DSi offers state-of-the-art management services to manufacturers and service industries, aiding them in selecting and partnering with commercial freight shippers and interim warehousing service providers. At DSi, he has been pivotal in adopting a revolutionary Transportation Spend Management (TSM) program, acclaimed for delivering significant savings and enabling SMBs to compete effectively in global logistics.
Shipping Services Sales Expert
Born in Cohasset, MA, on Turtle Island, he was industrious from age 13. He worked various jobs, such as pumping gas, bagging groceries, and working in construction and painting. His initial foray into the logistics industry began in 1974 as a Sales Representative for Springmeier Shipping Company, where he quickly ascended to the role of New England Regional Sales Manager.
In 1978, he joined Pacific Intermountain Express (P.I.E.) as a Sales Representative, where his expertise in inbound sales and shipping service sales played a crucial role in generating a surplus of outbound shipments. Following the deregulation of the motor carrier industry by The Motor Carrier Act of 1980, he secured a freight broker license in 1982 and established Balanced Transport Systems.
Transportation and Logistics Executive
After leaving Parker’s Express, he leveraged his extensive experience and industry contacts to become a full-time freight broker. He grew his business, Balanced Transport Services (BTS), by addressing the transportation management needs of SMBs in New England, employing a simplified pricing model based on trailer space utilization.
In 1991, he launched Distribution Solutions, Inc. (DSi) as a freight management consulting company. He expanded his client base and utilized his deep knowledge of freight forwarding, less-than-truckload, truckload, and freight pricing to serve manufacturing executives throughout New England. DSi now manages extensive logistics operations, focusing on rate negotiations, carrier services procurement, and contract administration.
Personal Life
Robert Snowdale is married with one child and actively participates in the communities of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Delray Beach, FL, and the Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole, MA. His commitment to the community is evident in his volunteer work at Big Dog Rescue Ranch and Damien’s Food Pantry. Residing in Pocasset, MA, on Cape Cod, he and his family relish their time at their winter home in Ocean Ridge, FL. Additionally, they have invested in short-term rental properties in New Hampshire. His hobbies include golfing, boating, and cooking, which he passionately pursues alongside his professional endeavors.
